This Liverpool bit features an arched mouthpiece that offers the horse more tongue room than a straight bar bit. The mouthpiece is reversible – with a smooth finish on one side and ribs on the other, to offer more or less severity.
It has sliding cheeks that offer more gag action and poll pressure, and a double link curb chain. There are 3 slots in the shank to allow adjustment to the severity of rein action required, except in the 4.5″ which has 2 slots

The Liverpool Driving Bit
The liverpool is a very popular bit for carriage driving. It offers several rein positions depending on the severity required. The softest position, called smooth cheek, has a snaffle like action with the curb not really being brought in to play. This setting is reserved for the most sedate driving horses and does not offer a great deal of control. A slightly stronger setting, rough cheek, allows some curb and poll action to be brought in by the liverpool. Following this the slots or bars can be used with the most severe settings furthest down the bar bringing increasing curb and poll pressure
