Zilco ZGB & Elite replacement hip straps. The hip straps are used to support and adjust the height of the breeching seat.
They should be adjusted to allow the breeching seat to sit approximately halfway between the widest and narrowest part of the upper hind leg. If they are adjusted too high then the breeching seat may slide over the buttock and under the tail which would be extremely uncomfortable for the horse and potentially very dangerous. If they are adjusted to allow the breeching seat to sit too low then it would put pressure on the weaker area of the horse’s leg and make it almost impossible for the horse to hold the vehicle back. The double hip strap as found on Zilco Elite and Zilco ZGB harness supports the breeching seat in a more even position and offers an extra layer of protection should one strap fail.
